HFHP at UMW General Assembly (April 25, 2014)
Raise your voice for women and girls at UMW General Assembly!
From April 25-27th we'll be gathering with more than 6,000 United Methodist Women in Louisville, KY to vision what our church would look like if women and girls were seen as children of God with sacred worth. If you're attending UMW General Assembly, we invite you to join us and take action!
Stop by our booth! (Booth 404)
Healthy Families, Healthy Planet will be co-sponsoring a booth with the General Board of Church and Society where we will be sharing resources to help you engage your community in advocating for women and girls. Be sure to stop by and pick up our new Mother's Day bulletin insert!
At our booth we'll also be asking participants to sign postcards to Congress urging them to continue their investments in global maternal health and international family planning programs. Please help us meet our goal of collecting 1,000 postcards!
Attend our workshops!
HFHP Director Katey Zeh will be presenting at the workshop "Birthing a Healthy World: The Church's Role in Improving Global Maternal and Reproductive Health." The workshop will be offered twice at the following times:
Friday, April 25th from 12:30-2:00pm
Saturday, April 26th from 2:30-4:00pm
Every two minutes somewhere in the world a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth. But these deaths are not inevitable. In this workshop from the Healthy Families, Healthy Planet project and United Methodist Women we will explore the barriers to improving global maternal and reproductive health, with real world examples from the mission field and the three-fold role of the church in improving it as donor, implementer, and advocate. You¹ll leave with specific opportunities for organizing and advocacy around maternal and reproductive health in your local units, congregations, and communities.
Share your vision on social media!
Throughout the conference we'll be sharing our vision for a church with women and girls of sacred worth on social media. Please join us in conversation on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/UMCHFHP or by using the Twitter hashtag #sacredworthUMC.
We hope to see you there!
