Children’s Books: Teaching Sacred Worth - July 10, 2015

Our Christian faith teaches that each of us is made in the image of God. Our Social Principles state, “The United Methodist Church acknowledges that all persons are of sacred worth.”

Books can open up a world of possibilities for our children, and teach all of us to celebrate the divine in everyone. How do the books on your shelves at home or the church nursery depict the beauty and diversity of your community? Of God’s creation?

Join us for a webinar, “Children’s Books: Teaching Sacred Worth,” Friday, July 17, as we introduce our children’s book initiative and talk with Coretta Scott-King Award-winning author Eloise Greenfield. She has written more than 40 books for children: poetry, biography, picture books and older fiction.

Ms. Greenfield says her mission is twofold:

  1. To contribute to the development of a large body of African-American literature for children, and
  2. To continue to fill her life with the joy of creating with words.

Eloise Greenfield enjoys working with and for young people. Through her work, she wants to give them words that nourish the spirit: "words to love, to grow on.”

Children’s Books: Teaching Sacred Worth” will be from 2 to 3 p.m. ET.

This webinar is sponsored by the General Board of Church & Society and Healthy Families, Healthy Planet, a GBCS initiative that focuses on the importance of maternal health and international family planning.
